At the start of a new year it is time to think about the new provincial budget, which will be introduced in February. Each year, the Standing Committee on Finance and Government Services makes budget recommendations after extensive public consultation. This year, as in past years, the Committee has made several crucial spending recommendations for public K–12 education. Implementing these recommendations is a necessary step on the path toward a system that equitably provides quality public education in safe schools that are properly equipped to meet the needs of all BC's children.

Please take a moment to use our email tool to write to Premier John Horgan, Minister of Education Rob Fleming, Minister of Finance Carole James, the Opposition critics for education (Mary Polak and Dan Davies), the BC Liberal Opposition leader (Rich Coleman), the leader of the Green Party (Andrew Weaver), the Green Party spokesperson for education (Sonia Furstenau), and your MLA, to tell them you expect your government to prioritize public education in 2018.

It’s quick and easy: On a device that allows you to send email, just fill in the form below and click “Create Email.” Your email will open; all you have to do is press “Send.” The email will go to the politicians listed above and PAN and FACE (so that we can keep count of the emails being sent).

My hope for 2018 is that BC's government leaders will finally re-prioritize public education in the February Budget by implementing the Select Standing Committee on Finance's recommendations for K–12 Education (http://facebc.ca/newyear/recommendations).

Putting these recommendations into effect will help to ensure that BC will provide quality equitable public education to all BC's children, in 2018 and beyond.
